Post-Surgery Lymphatic Drainage
Sessions begin 3 to 7 days post-op with your surgeon's clearance. Five of our six RMTs are trained in Brazilian lymphatic drainage, so you can usually be seen inside that early window. Every RMT is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Concerns Post-Surgery Lymphatic Drainage Treats

Post-Cosmetic-Surgery Recovery
Recovery after liposuction, BBL, tummy tuck, and breast surgery. Body-contouring cases use the firmer, faster Brazilian protocol, paced to your post-op stage and your surgeon's plan.
Treatments+
Brazilian lymphatic drainage paced for the first four to eight weeks post-procedure. Pressure and sequence follow your surgeon's protocol. Dense early scheduling, then tapering as fluid resolves.
Causes+
Surgery cuts lymphatic vessels and fluid pools around the surgical site. Without clearance, that fluid can consolidate into fibrosis and affect both comfort and the final cosmetic result.
What every appointment looks like.
Every step is paced to your procedure, your surgeon's protocol, and your stage of recovery, on the day.
The first appointment opens with a fifteen to twenty minute documentation review: health history, surgical documentation, current medications, and recovery status. Your RMT confirms which areas to treat, which to avoid, and what pressure fits your recovery stage. Surgeon clearance is confirmed before any hands-on work begins.
Details+
- • Your surgeon's post-operative instructions and cleared start date
- • Health history, current medications, and recovery status
- • Areas to treat and areas to avoid around incisions
- • Compression garment protocol and any procedure-specific guidance

When Post-Surgery Lymphatic Drainage Isn't the Right First Call
Red flags: call your surgeon first
Signs of infection at or near the incision: fever, spreading redness, heat, or unusual discharge. Calf swelling with redness, warmth, or pain that could suggest a deep vein thrombosis. Sudden severe pain or swelling unlike anything since the procedure. Any of these call for your surgeon or physician before any massage therapy.
Clearance first, then we screen
Sessions do not begin until your surgeon clears manual therapy, most commonly 3 to 7 days post-op. At intake your RMT reviews the post-operative instructions and runs a contraindication screen. If anything in your history calls for medical review first, you will be told directly at that visit and the session waits.
Body-contouring cases route to Brazilian
Recovery after liposuction, BBL, and tummy tuck procedures uses the Brazilian protocol: a firmer, faster technique built for body-contouring recovery. Your RMT routes you to the right protocol at intake, and the referral is in-house. Broader post-surgical cases stay with clinical MLD.
Five Brazilian-trained RMTs. One CMTO-regulated standard.
Five of the six registered massage therapists at Essential Health are trained in Brazilian lymphatic drainage: Crystal Tait, Rupa Mistry, Ashlyn Sutcliffe, Alina Scenna, and Samantha Gucciardi. Three are profiled below; Ashlyn and Alina round out the roster and are bookable the same way. That depth means most post-surgical patients can be seen inside their surgeon's recommended window. Samantha Gucciardi additionally holds Level One Vodder training, but it is not part of her active practice; patients seeking lymphatic drainage receive either Brazilian MLD or the LINFA Method.

Steps to your first consultation.
Step Two
Your first appointment opens with a fifteen to twenty minute documentation review: health history, surgical documentation, current medications, and recovery status. Bring your surgeon's post-operative care instructions, a list of medications, and any prescribed compression garments. The session books as 60 or 75 minutes, and the pressure is much lighter than standard massage.
Step One
Surgeon clearance comes first, most commonly 3 to 7 days post-op. No formal referral is required to book. Book online at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. Same-week appointments are typically available across the five Brazilian-trained RMTs.
Step Three
Most post-surgical patients run six to twelve sessions across the first four to eight weeks. Frequency is highest in the first two to three weeks, then tapers as swelling resolves. Your RMT tracks swelling, tissue texture, and comfort at every visit and adjusts the plan to what your tissue shows.
